Founded in 1898, Waynflete School is an independent, co-ed day school for preschool through grade 12 located in the heart of historic Portland, Maine. Our diverse and inventive curriculum engages intellects and imaginations while our dedicated faculty inspire, empower, and guide students to think critically, act intentionally, and seek to make a difference.
Early Childhood
Using the Reggio Emilia approach, our pre-kindergarten instructors create immersive, multidisciplinary, in-the-moment learning experiences to spark and support the natural curiosity and creativity of each child. The energy and excitement that fuels these days of discovery and deep learning can be felt throughout our close-knit community, where every child is seen and supported for who they are.
(Ages 3–4)
Lower School
You can feel it from the moment you walk into our new elementary school building: this is a place children want to be. Hands-on learning personalized to each student’s passions and potential. Teachers and friends they trust. Small class sizes. Surrounded by a caring community, Waynflete Lower School students explore, imagine, play, create, and collaborate.
(Kindergarten–Grade 5)
Middle School
Middle Schoolers need a learning environment designed just for them. Instead of expecting sixth graders to sit still, stay focused, and listen to a teacher for 50 minutes, Waynflete offers classes where students are encouraged to move around, ask questions, brainstorm, and form their own conclusions.
(Grades 6–8)
Within small classes led by dedicated faculty, students get the one-on-one support they need to meet and exceed rigorous academic expectations. Our close-knit, caring community encourages students to become truly active learners. Waynflete helps high school students get ready for what comes next—college, career, community service—without losing sight of the wonder and joy of where they are right now.
